Fashions around the world

The Victoria Secret Fashion Show was the most amazing fashion show I have seen all year. Not because of the just the clothes though, there were some loud, puffy, sparkling outfits that will stay in my mind forever. There were many props as well. Every girl had a different prop. For example there was a girl with an umbrella and rain jacket, a girl dressed in plastic bubbles with a bubble blower to accompany her down the runway. There were more wings in this show then any other year because so many girls wanted to wear wings this year. There were 34 featured models for the fashion show. They all haven’t been working The Victoria Secret Fashion Show for the same amount of time, but no matter what they all consider each other family. During the show they all said something about another angel they were working with and everyone had something positive to say about one and other. It was said that Lily was smokin’ hot, Rosie is a sexy bomb and Chanel is the baby angel. There were musical appearances by Katy Perry and Akon incorporated into the fashion show.

The Global Fashion Association (GFA) decided that it will be making an appearance at New York fashion week in February. The GFA has made many appearances world wide and only finds it right to appear in New York fashion week. The concept is called “Runway 2012”. In hopes to incorporate all great designers in one show, GFA looks at this as an all over stop for fashionistas everywhere. The GFA’s job is to organize and help fulfill every members hopes and dreams for before, during, and after the show. This is the place where designers will show their Fall 2011 collection. This will take place in a former railroad station called “the tunnel”. This building was built in 1891 overlooking the Hudson River. The Global Fashion Association started back in 2007 and since then they have become an international icon for Fashion Week. GFA’s goals in starting this association were to help assist its members in Fashion Weeks around the world.

What would you say if you had to honestly evaluate your style? How would you describe your own personal fashion? Do you think that description is true to who you are as a person?
“My personal style is kind of funk-esque (funk the music style if it were a fashion). I like fun knit hats, patterned scarfs, and more classy coats like the pea coat,” explained Hindi.
“I would describe my personal style as leggings and a sweater pretty much every fall/winter,” said Laggini
“When I think of my personal style it’s hard for me to go with just one thing. My style more depends on what I am doing that day,” said Buzzell. “I mainly wear dresses in the summer. As for all the other seasons I tend to dress to the occasion. If I am going to work at the school I usually wear dress pants and a nice blouse. Now if I am taking my daughter camping or sitting around a fire I am wearing jeans, boots and a sweat shirt.”

Sometimes it might seem difficult to pick out ‘trendy’ outfits, but who says something is trendy? Trendy can be defined as anything that is believed by the masses that something is fashionable. Trends may come and go, but there are some things that never change. Elisabetta Laggini, who is currently a junior at Hood College, describes the word trendy as, “a style that most people choose to follow”. For example, the little black dress. This piece is almost required for any girl. No matter what a simple black dress will never go out of style. Another classic dress is the red cocktail dress. This is always a great choice for a very elegant look. A red dress paired with black pumps and a small black clutch is always a good look for a semi-formal to formal occasion. Either outfit paired with a string of pearls around your neck makes the outfit very classy.

First, neutral colors are your friends. Do not think that beige, black, brown, and navy are too boring to have in your closet. They are a must have for any one no matter where you are at in your life. Neutral colors are easy to pair with any other color of the rainbow.

“As far as themes in my store go we always have a color story that is the basis of our line and right now it is pinks and reds with accents of rich jewel tones like purples and navy,” said Amy Mooney, sales lead at Ann Taylor Loft.

Don’t forget about accessories! You can always dress up an outfit with a great pair of heels and a nice handbag. Jewelry can also help you dress an outfit up or down.

“For holiday we have lots of sparkly embellishments like jeweled buttons on a sweater and beaded clutches to feminine ruffled tops,” said Mooney.

If anyone is a reality television fan who is into fashion, you have probably seen the show Project Runway. Project Runway just finished their eighth season and Gretchen Jones was dubbed the winner.

For those of you who might not be familiar with the show there are a certain number of designers who compete to be the winner of this show and eventually create their own fashion line. Throughout the show the designers are asked to do a number of different challenges for the judges to critique them upon. At the end of each episode usually one, sometimes even two people are sent home.

Mondo Guerra and Jones were the last two left in the competition when they were both asked to create a collection that is all their own. Guerra’s collection was very loud and vibrate. He used a lot of plaid and bright colors that did not go over to well with the judges..

Jones’ collection was very boho chic which was a true to herself and her own personal style. The judges all gave approval of the collection and Jones’ was then crown winner of season 8 project runway.
